The lute quickly became a gateway to the theorbo and her true passion, basso continuo. She received numerous awards and grants to further her studies overseas, including a Churchill Fellowship to study with Jakob Lindberg in the UK, a scholarship to the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan where she studied with Paul Beier and funding from the Australia Council to study with Pat O\u2019Brien in New York. She is a performer of lute, baroque guitar and theorbo, appearing and recording with Melbourne-based groups including <em>Genesis Baroque, Elysium Ensemble <\/em>and<em> Evergreen Ensemble<\/em>. She has played with many of Australia\u2019s leading orchestras including <em>The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Pinchgut Opera, ACO, Orchestra Victoria, MSO, <\/em>and <em>Melbourne Chamber Orchestra. <\/em>A career highlight was performing alongside early harp virtuoso, Andrew Lawrence King at the World Harp Congress in Sydney in 2014. Samantha is a founding member of <em>Ludovico\u2019s Band <\/em>and Melbourne\u2019s <em>Continuo Collective.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>And Last Year for those that want to delve into my past concerts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>30 March:<\/strong> Hannah Lane \u2013 baroque triple harp<br \/>Italian \u201cSecret Music\u201d and refined music for the English royalty from the 16th and 17th centuries. This programme for baroque triple harp explores the Music by Luzzaschi, Frescobaldi, Purcell, Dowland and more.<br \/><strong>4 May:<\/strong> Meredith Beardmore \u2013 historical flute and Niels Bijl \u2013 classical saxophone, with Peter Hagen \u2013 harpsichord. Telemann and Handel Trio sonatas<br \/>Two of the best composers from the high baroque performed with a beautiful, unusual blend of instruments.<br \/><strong>22 June:<\/strong> Kate Macfarlane \u2013 voice, Samantha Cohen theorbo and Peter Hagen on organ and harpsichord.
